PLANET Biography
Since their debut in 2017, Sydney indie rock/alt pop group PLANET has gone from strength to strength when it comes to the development of their central sound, as well as their musical dynamic.
Between band members Matty Took, Tom Peppitt, Harry Stewart-Weeks and Jimmy Weaver, the band’s love for music and performing with one another extends back to school days. Experience in different bands eventually led them to form PLANET, where their sound and creative identity was properly formed.
A slew of single releases, followed by debut EP Waking Eight in 2018 propelled the group onto the global touring stage; leading PLANET to enjoy numerous sold out headline tours both in Australia and in the U.K. Their sound has become synonymous with a wild and genuine live energy; their music instantly accessible and engaging.
In 2020, the band released their sophomore EP Maybe Someday, a five-track record that redefined the band’s vision and reflected slight shifts in creative direction and influence. It also provided PLANET with strong foundations to build upon as they now look to further flesh out this new chapter of their career.
2022 will see PLANET deliver their highly anticipated debut album via Run On/Modern Sky in the U.K. and Dew Process in Australia.
Written and recorded between Matty’s home studio and the AIM studios in Sydney, the record came together during the peak of the pandemic in 2020. And while not definitively a ‘COVID album’, the record demonstrates PLANET operating at their strongest writing peak to date.
The band worked with Grammy Award winning producer Adrian Bushby (Muse, New Order, Placebo, U2, Foo Fighters) ), as well as longtime collaborator Lachlan Mitchell, who regrouped with PLANET after engineering all their EP releases to date in assisting with Information Overload..
With over one million streams to date, and a strong international and domestic presence as a live band well established, PLANET have pushed themselves into new sonic territory with Information Overload. Relishing the opportunity to experiment and utilise new sounds, the band has further galvanised their core sound that first endeared them to crowds the world over.
