Alex Alvear

Hi! I'm a bassist, singer, composer and arranger born in Quito, Ecuador and currently living between Boston, MA USA and Quito, Ecuador. My music varies depending on the project I am working in. Here are my personal projects; MANGO BLUE is an ensemble performing my original compositions and arrangements, mixing many different styles - like a big musical salad bringing together some of the musical styles I love most - including Funk, Jazz, R&B, Afro-Cuban Folklore, Caribbean Roots, Salsa, Songo, Merengue, Cha-Cha and many more. EQUATORIAL is a body of work of original compositions and arrangements based on and inspired by traditional music from Ecuador. While I worked hard in maintaining the essence of the traditional styles, I also added elements from Jazz, Tango, Rock and Classical music. This project brings me full-circle back to my Ecuadorian roots after a long musical and life journey and I consider it to be a tribute to the place where I was born.
