Alex Koo の経歴
“Stunningly original ” – Downbeat Jazz Magazine,
“Belgium is too small for pianist Alex Koo” – De Tijd,
“Koo is the type of piano player that appears to be painting with luscious pastel strokes. Melodies that, like a goldfinch, elegantly lift off and settle down again.” – Trouw,
Belgian-Japanese pianist/composer Alex Koo has been quoted by many as a rising star in the world of jazz, recipient of several awards, such as a Fulbright Award, BAEF Music Fellowship, a Prins Bernhard Culture Prize and a first prize at the Prinses Christina Concours.
His album ‘Appleblueseagreen‘, with American icons Ralph Alessi and Mark Turner, was praised by Downbeat Jazz Magazine and included in their list of ‘Best Albums of 2019‘, with 4 stars and the mention ” Stunningly original “ (Clever Tree Records, March 2019).
For his second adventure working together with trumpeter Alessi, the two joined forces with drummer Attila Gyárfás, and the newly born trio released Identified Flying Object (W.E.R.F. records, January 2021). The album was hailed as a staple of originality and inginuity: “Belgium is too small for pianist Alex Koo” lauded De Tijd.
With his most recent solo piano project Etudes with a Twist, commissioned by Bozar, Alex explores the boundaries of pianistic virtuosity, extended playing techniques and sound projection. Countdown until March 2023, when this new album will be released by (you guessed it!) W.E.R.F Records.
