“And just like the seasons shift you’d always change your mind…” (Meskerem Mees)
With an exquisite collective of musicians, Zefiro Torna gives a new musical interpretation to the Yuletide festival and the period of the winter solstice.
The authentic voices of internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Meskerem Mees and top soprano Lore Binon resonate in a cycle of pagan ‘light’ songs, medieval and Baroque Christmas music, 19th and 20thC music, and songs by Meskerem Mees. Piano wizard and composer Jean-Luc Fafchamps wrote contemporary arrangements for the ensemble for a special set of instruments featuring folk guitar, violin, theorbo, lute, cimbalom, percussion and prepared piano .
The musical keywords are friction and upheaval. Meskerem Mees’ soulful voice and Lore Binon’s pure classical voice become polymorphously intertwined. Instruments with different historical backgrounds and temperaments clash and seek harmonic agreement.

Ever since its creation in 1996, the music ensemble ZEFIRO TORNA has been known for its innovative concepts.
The ensemble works with excellent musicians from all over Europe and uniquely brings the cultural heritage of the Middle Ages, renaissance and baroque to life for a wide audience. ZEFIRO TORNA does not limit itself to a merely historical approach, but enters in dialogue with other musical genres, as well as with literature, science, philosophy, and with contemporary expressions in the field of visual arts, theatre, and dance. This results in captivating formats on symbolical themes.
The ensemble is a welcomed guest at prestigious concert venues and art and music festivals in numerous countries. The creations are regularly awarded. Their albums are released on the labels Et’Cetera, Warner Classics, Homerecords, and Antarctica Records.
