About this concert
Quivers, of Melbourne/Naarm, are doing a few first shows in the quiet before-the-storm that is international touring around their 3rd release coming out August 9 via beloved US label Merge.
Catch them as they release a first single, “Apparitions”, and share the cathartic jangle pop that Pitchfork, NPR and even R.E.M. have sung the praises of.
Quivers have performed at Dark Mofo, Meadow, Boogie, and SXSW after which they filmed a session for beloved Seattle station KEXP. They have also supported the likes of The Hold Steady, Angie McMahon, and Methyl Ethel. Late 2022 saw Quivers tour the US with 2nd album Golden Doubt, described by Pitchfork as “like a Go-Betweens with Coachella-conquering ambitions”. Next release, available for pre-order now via Merge, sees the band dive into a tougher and more expansive pop with both Bella and Sam sharing singing duties. There’s more angular than jangular guitars now, 1970s synth drones, and more songs about hometowns, friendship, giving in to love, and swimming away from grief. Quivers’ come alive on tour; four people and voices that build it up to let it fall apart and then build it back up again.
Words about Quivers:
“It’s the sound of bedsit 1980s college-rock thrust into the big-tent environs of 21st-century indie, like a Go-Betweens with Coachella-conquering ambitions or a Smiths with greater pub sing-along appeal. And it’s absolutely glorious.”
- Pitchfork
“Quietly spectacular” - Brooklyn Vegan
“Those big, heart-filling harmonies are a highlight of the record. As are the chiming, jangling guitars that call to mind the classic, timeless guitar pop and college rock of artists like Big Star, R.E.M. and The Go-Betweens. But it's Nicholson's rich songwriting that ultimately makes Golden Doubt so captivating.” - Zan Rowe
“Classic Antipodean Indie Pop, 9/10” - Backseat Mafia
“...one of the best songs I’ve heard in years... that song reminded me this is why we do this. I listened to it like a weirdo, like 8 times in a row.” - John Richards, KEXP.

I’d never been to Swan Dive before and it was a pleasant surprise. Great small venue.
And Quivers? One of my favorite bands of the last 5-6 years. And they were amazing. Super tight. Great harmonies. Got right to it and even humored my request for “Pigeons.”

Quivers Biography
Jangle-damaged pop from the southern hemisphere. Pre-order "Oyster Cuts" via Merge Records or quiversmusic.com - which has all the US/CANADA/UK/EU/OZ tour dates too!
Oyster Cuts, the Merge debut of Quivers, finds the Melbourne, Australia–based outfit awash in the kind of emotions people tend to fear losing themselves in. Finding love after grief, the outsized guitar pop of Quivers gleams like the surface of an ocean, beneath which lies a reef that is at turns beautiful and painful, its features alien and sharp enough to wound. Propelled by melodies that at times recall Galaxie 500 and The Pretenders, Quivers make music that is tender and tough, compelling the listener to dive in again and again, each song a new angle on all of your feelings.
The losses and loves that have informed Quivers’ music since their inception—the sudden loss of a brother in the cracked optimism of We’ll Go Riding on the Hearses (2018) and the life in and after grief of Golden Doubt (2021)—ripple into Oyster Cuts, which is committed to moving forward while accepting that some feelings, like grief, are a cycle. Crucially, Quivers committed to moving forward with each other. Paring away the choir and strings of its predecessor, Oyster Cuts is a showcase for what’s still possible when four people—Sam Nicholson (guitars), Bella Quinlan (bass), Michael Panton (guitars), and Holly Thomas (drums)—make music together.
