About this concert
Kananayé, c’est une histoire qui commence à Bobo-Dioulasso en 2019, une première fois au Burkina Faso pour la chanteuse Clotilde Rullaud à l’occasion du festival Badara et une rencontre musicale évidente, comme il s’en produit parfois, avec le batteur Achille Nacoulma et le guitariste Abdoulaye Traore, fines fleurs de la scène musicale burkinabè. Rejoints plus tard par Kanazoe au balafon et Boubacar Djiga au kunde, la combinaison artistique était parfaite, la team bien trop belle, pour ne pas concocter, dans la chaleur ouatée des studios de Bobo, une hydre musicale à 5 têtes, un album écrit collectivement, au carrefour d’univers artistiques pluriels.
Alliant slam, chansons en français, dioula, more, anglais, le vent de l’improvisation en poupe mais la boussole toujours pointée vers les musiques traditionnelles d’Afrique de l’Ouest, le son de Kananayé voyage, entre Paris et Bobo, raconte la vie d’aujourd’hui, emprunte les chemins du blues, sillonne vers les rivages afro-américains, insufflant à l’arrivée une musique très actuelle, emmenée par une belle complicité et le bonheur de jouer ensemble.
« Kananayé », comme on dit dans les rues de Bobo, « c’est pas facile » mais ça va aller !

Clotilde Rullaud Biography
Clotilde is an international multidisciplinary creator, artistic director, vocalist, flutist, producer and facilitator who employs a range of artforms to generate new poetic languages. She combines music, song, dance, and the visual arts to make singular performance pieces, concerts, and films.
Her music and motion art movie XXY [ɛks/ɛks/wʌɪ] (2018) has been screened in over thirty festivals around the world and received several prizes and nominations. Her most recent album, A Woman’s Journey (2016) received sixteen awards, six of which were for the best album (in France and the USA). Clotilde’s second album, In Extremis (2008), was ranked among the top five albums of 2011 by The Sunday Times (UK) and 2013 by the NPR Annual Jazz Critics Poll (USA). Her international career has led her to perform at venues and festivals in Australia, Burkina-Faso, China, Germany, Korea, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and the United States.
