the Reconstructed Biography

Martin England & the Reconstructed | Bio

Three years ago, The Reconstructed called to mind a puzzle waiting to be completed. After the release of Martin England's solo record Razed and Reconstructed, talented local musicians shifted in and out of a lineup that would eventually become today's five-piece band.

Once the group perfected England’s solo material they began to collectively work new ideas -- and as a result the puzzle pieces clicked together and the band became a unified whole. Realizing they had a chemistry in song craft, they forged ahead and soon had ample material for their debut album, Dawn Chorus.

Dawn Chorus features songs of love, murder, and resiliency. Dawn Chorus takes listeners down many paths, all with a haunting, atmospheric sound replete with amazing three-part harmonies, thunderous rhythm sections, intricate guitar passages, and delicate acoustic guitar and banjo refrains. Dawn’s folk rock musings will remind listeners of My Morning Jacket, War on Drugs, Wilco, and Band of Horses, with smatterings of Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan inserted here and there.

Dawn Chorus was produced by Reconstructed guitarist Jesse Dold, who did much with little in his tiny studio (Ghost Mill) in Dover, NH, where the Reconstructed played much of the album in an abandoned mill space, which provided much of the album its signature reverb.

The Reconstructed features veterans of the Seacoast music scene: England fronted Pondering Judd, which over a 10-year career released six albums to much critical acclaim and local popularity. Drummer Sean Daniels recorded and toured nationally with Thanks To Gravity, another stalwart of the nineties Seacoast scene. Bassist Andrew Russell of the Molenes and power popsters Wow rounds out the rhythm section. The duo of Jesse Dold and Courtney Brocks (The Farewell Drugs) provide a treasure trove of instrumentation and a lush landscape of vocals that blend perfectly with England’s baritone.
