Monica Da Silva Biography
Monica da Silva grew up living between The United States and Belém, Brazil, a city on the Amazon River. A love of travel and foreign language helped to forge her unique sound.
Paralleling her life, da Silva's music contains an eclectic mix of Brazilian and American influences. Her sound can be classified as International Fusion, as it is heavily influenced by Brazilian music, namely Bossa Nova, but also incorporates elements of Lounge, Electronica, Indie Pop, and Worldbeat. Da Silva brings her cultural diversity to her songs, smoothly flowing between English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
In 2010, da Silva released her album "Brasilissima" . The record featured songs in both of her native languages - English and Portuguese. The first single "Aí Então", “was chosen by Putumayo World Music to be included on their compilation “Brazilian Beat”. The upbeat, psychedelic track "That's Not The Way" was chosen by the music director of ESPN to be played during the programming of The FIFA World Cup in 2014, alongside major recording artists Coldplay, Sérgio Mendes, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Stan Getz, and Astrud Gilberto.
Da Silva's single "Soldado de Amor" (2017) has been featured in the BBC One series "The Replacement”, in the Paramount Network series "American Woman", and in a 2019 campaign for the designer Tory Burch.
Her music has also been featured in the series "Heartland", and in an ad for Patron Tequila. She is currently recording a new, full-length solo album, as well as writing and recording with her project, Complicated Animals.
