Jon Spear

Jon Spear is a versatile guitarist and award-winning singer/songwriter who regularly performs in the Central Virginia area. During his long musical career, Jon has shared the stage with the likes of the Isley Brothers, Delbert McClinton, Debbie Davies, the Iguanas, Chris Duarte Group, Anson Funderburgh, Memphis Gold, Junior Brown, and more. He released five albums to critical acclaim, several of which received extensive airplay and charted in Europe, Canada, the US and other parts of the world. His band’s album “Live Music is Better” was nominated by Blues Blast Magazine for the Best Live Album award of 2016.

During the 1950s Jon cut his musical teeth on rockabilly, doo-wop, early rock ‘n’ roll and blues but like many in his generation was soon drawn to folk scene where he honed his finger-picking talents and developed a keen appreciation of the power of music to change the way people look at the world. As a result of his varied background, when you hear Jon perform, you might hear him playing music by an eclectic variety of artists including Chuck Berry, Paul Simon, Merle Travis, Eddie Vedder, Johnny Cash, Blind Boy Fuller, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine, and maybe one of his many original songs.
