About this concert
London-based Belle Chen is a pianist and composer whose unique approach in blurring the lines between classical and electronic music has been recognised by industry heavyweights. Described as an artist that is “original and provocative… feels like the sense of discovery” (Brian Eno), Chen will be performing from her latest album ‘Ravel In The Forest’ (2024), an evocative celebration of the forests’ colourful ecosystems and the humankind’s distinctive capacity to imagine.
What sets Chen’s music apart is a quirky yet tender approach to musical storytelling. With influences of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi’s melodic sweetness shining through, Chen also blends sonically bold synth explorations and free flowing improvisations that could feel equally at home on jazz or experimental stages.

Belle Chen’s music is a curious blend of classical, jazz, experimental and world genres. Her approach to music often reveals elements of surprise and wonder, whilst retaining the tonal aesthetic of classical and post-classical language. She draws upon textures ranging from experimental, jazz, and world genres.
As a pianist-composer, Belle’s works have been nominated for Australian Music Prize, handpicked as Classic FM’s Album of The Weekend, ABC Classic FM’s Feature Album, and is frequently heard on radio across UK, Europe, Australia, and North America. Her recent commissions and syncs include those for BBC Sounds, BBC Concert Orchestra, Gucci Archive, London Fashion Week, Shanghai Fashion Week, and The Joffrey Ballet Chicago.
