About this concert
Brooklyn Doran (she/her) is a queer singer-songwriter originally from the heart of Northwestern Ontario, who has been a staple of the Toronto folk scene for over ten years. Doran’s unique sound weaves song and storytelling; the polarity between her music and personality create a harmonious blend of wit and humour contrasted by vulnerable lyricism and haunting melody. She brings to the Toronto Reference Library a concert performance and storytelling session that creates a backdrop for listeners to discover the ways in which stories can be woven into the structure of song. Through this performance, communities will gather valuable insight into how song creation uses melody, lyric, and rhythm to tell the songwriter's story in an impactful and meaningful way. Drawing on influences from traditional folk, poetry, and pop melody- Doran guides the listener through a series of personal explorations of her own life as a young queer artist, from her upbringing in Northern Ontario to the urban landscape and social architecture of Toronto that influences her work today.
