About this concert
Join Marty Haggard, the oldest son of the legendary Merle Haggard, as he shares some of the greatest country music ever written and recorded. Marty will share stories of the past, growing up by his dad's side while he was writing and recording these timeless, classic songs. Marty will be accompanied by world-class musicians and the show will include some of Marty's original songs as well. Marty has had his own accomplished career, performing country music for forty years, but about eight years ago, his love for his dad and his music inspired Marty to pay tribute to his dad through stories and songs. If you love real country music, you'll enjoy this show! Marty will be available after the show to meet, greet and sign autographs. This is a family friendly event. Tickets are $25 if purchased in advance and will be $30 on day of show at the door. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 1-800-838-3006 or go to the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce at 600 East Depot St in Brownwood (325-646-9535). Doors open at 6 PM. Marty Haggard Music Biography
Marty was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. Of course, everyone knows his Dad, Merle Haggard, who Marty considers "the best country singer/songwriter ever". Marty was privileged to be a part of his Dad's career and having the opportunity to meet many of the country greats as well as other celebrities and dignitaries. Unfortunately Marty's Dad passed away April 6, 2016 on his 79th birthday. He will be greatly missed by all.
In 1979, Marty began touring with his own band, then in 1981 signed with Dimension Records. From 1983 to 1985 he travelled with his Dad, singing harmony and playing guitar. In 1986, he signed with MTM Records and released Trains Make Me Lonesome, a song which garnered him a nomination as best new male vocalist. In 1995, Marty signed with Critique/BMG.
In 1999, Marty began writing and singing spiritual songs. For 10 years Marty traveled the country playing at churches and other venues proclaiming his love for Jesus.
Marty's love for his Dad's music inspired him to begin a project titled A Tribute to Merle Haggard "My Dad". In 2010, he cut the first album in his tribute consisting of 15 Hag classics. In 2010 he also began performing a tribute to his dad in Branson, Missouri until 2012. In 2011 he also recorded his second Tribute album to his Dad. Marty has spent the last 10 years performing A Tribute to Merle Haggard "My Dad" all over the United States and Canada plus England, Ireland and Scotland.
