Kakagi Biography
Kakagi is a folk-rock band from Winnipeg, MB. Kakagi writes earnest songs about mundane places and situations and has been described as "the folk rock lovechild of the Weakerthans and Neil Young." Kakagi takes their name from a lake in Northwestern Ontario close to the summer camp where the band first played together. Kakagi’s music fits well with the canoe trips the band members took in their youth: relaxed, yet determined, and somewhat unpredictable.
Kakagi has had a busy first year as a band. Since self releasing their first EP in November of 2016, Kakagi won ‘best new band’ at the Uniter Fiver competition, had a feature interview and live performance on CBC Radio’s Up To Speed, received regular plays on CKUW, UMFM, and CBC, toured Western Canada, and played shows all over Winnipeg. Notable local shows include Downtown Biz’s ManyFest, The Ellice Street Festival, and opening for the Watchmen.
