The Riviera Theatee was a beautiful venue to house the Heartbreaker tour. It was incredible to see an album that was so pivotal to my early 20s that it almost felt like I was living the emotions of my past lives. I’m not a huge fan of Buffalo crowds, honestly. They seem to want to converse with the artists and continually make requests after the artist has shut them down more than once. The show felt like it ended fairly abruptly after someone requested “Come Pick Me Up” for the umpteenth time after he said he plays it last. Would highly recommend this tour, but maybe not the crowd attending.

Big fan of Ryan Adams since the days of Whiskeytown. Show started on time and he played over 2 hours with a 20 minute intermission. 1st set was mostly acoustic and harmonica and some piano. He sounded great, majority of the songs were from Heartbreaker. Played one song with a bass and drummer that was interesting. No lyrics just heavy fuzz guitar, wasn't familiar with song. Did stop once to scold and audience member asking if they had teuretz. LOL! I was hoping for more songs with electric guitar but playing solo without a full band limits that I guess. The one thing that got me was the usher was telling us no video or flash because the lights bothers his eyes. I wasn't familiar with any medical conditions he had with lighting however his stage had various lamps for lighting and that's all there was. It was an intimate setting. No spotlight, or internal stage lights, just the lamps so you couldn't even make out his face. He did talk quite a bit with the crowd, some things were funny, some didn't make sense. I'm glad I saw him finally but I don't know if I'd go again. I wasn't "wowed" but maybe it's just me. Still love listening to his music and his merchandise was cool. He had limited artwork for sale, signed albums and some great shirts. I picked up his Heartbreaker sweatshirt with a tiger on it that was really sweet. If you haven't seen him, it's worth it but if you have, then you already know what to expect.

Ryan Adams gave one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen - certainly the best one featuring floor lamps. My favorite part was seeing an older couple duck out to the side area and slow dance to "Come pick me up", which was clearly their song. My second favorite was seeing Ryan take on someone doing flash photography, despite the great number of notices saying not to do so. "Who do you think you are - Darth Maul?" was one of the better put-downs of the night. A bucket list concert.

What a fantastic show. The venue was fairly small and it was not full. He joked around about that quite a bit. I think it's just his sense of humor because he definitely gave us all he had musically. The sound was perfect. His voice is fantastic and for basically a one man show he entertained the audience throughout. Finished with his classic Come Pick Me Up.

It was great to see Ryan in H-Town again after a seven year absence. Heights Theater was the perfect venue for an intimate show like this where it was just the man himself with the exception of one song where he plugged in & played “Bartering Lines” with a drummer & bassist. The show was divided into two sets: the opening set featured songs from his first solo album Heartbreaker which turned 25 this year. With his usual wicked sense of humor, Ryan entertained the audience between songs. The man is such an incredible storyteller. The second set featured songs from other solo LP’s including Gold, Easy Tiger & Prisoner. However, the cover songs that Ryan has been doing for several years now that have a connection to the town he is playing in were the highlights of the 2nd set. First, from Houston native the late Kenny Rogers, his massive early 80’s hit, “The Gambler” followed by “Rough Boy” from local legends ZZ Top. But, Ryan’s acoustic/blues version of H-Town hip-hop stars The Geto Boys “My Mind’s Playin’ Tricks On Me” was the highlights of the evening for me. Inventive musicianship at its creative finest. To close out the evening, a classic from Heartbreaker, “Come Pick Me Up”. An incredible show for any true fan of Ryan Adams. Strongly recommended catching this tour at some point if you can!

The show was great! Ryan played excellent tunes, from Heartbreaker of course, but also from many other albums. Some of the arrangements were outstanding! Some with a bit of a bluesy twist as well. So there was a lot of variation to his songs. Ryan was in a great mood and cracked some funny jokes, the story telling was cool too. So glad Ryan comes out this way, not a fan of having to go up to LA to see him--but I do and I will of course. Thanks for the amazing show Ryan, and nice curveball on melting faces with the plugged in session!!!

A very different concert experience, it was the first time I’ve ever had an artist quit the show before its completion. Ryan was in the middle of a song when he abruptly quit performing because he said too many people were talking and he was tired. Earlier, he was annoyed when someone from the audience yelled out his ex’s name and he went off on a 15 minute rant. Overall, I enjoyed the acoustic performance and Ryan’s banter with the crowd

Always loved Ryan Adams - and his performance last Sunday night at Falls View Cassino was terrific! He played a solid 3 hours on his own with no breaks. He did a wide range of songs from his catalogue along with a few covers. he's also really really funny and smart. If you have a chance to see him live you should go - it will be one of your memorable concerts. Also the sound quality at the show was terrific - not sure if it was the venue, but i suspect that Ryan Adams sound tech had a lot to do with it.

He was in fine form vocally and in good humour emotionally, although he allowed himself some hostile rants regarding former friends, former unkind critics, and being jilted by Massey Hall. He played a 3 hour set replete with many of his most familiar songs, as well as some excellent cover songs with his own wonderful interpretations. There was a steady flow of humourous quips, anecdotes, and audience interaction between songs. He maintained a running joke throughout the concert regarding audience members leaving their seats for the lobby before he began playing a new song and those returning to their seats and disrupting the flow of the show. Overall, he seemed more confident in himself and more comfortable on stage than he did on his previous tour through this area. It will go down as one of the most memorable concerts in my 45+ years of attending live shows.

Fantastic evening spent with one of the greatest singer songwriters of his generation, in a cool venue with a loving, appreciative audience . Ryan performs not only his own gorgeous songs from a multi-genre, profoundly deep catalogue, accompanied by expert guitar, piano & harmonica playing, but his personal takes on a wide array of covers (Dead Can Dance, The Doors, Smokey Robinson, his list of influences goes on), dazzle with new meaning. On top of this, his hilariously self deprecating, spontaneous sense of humor & gift of standup storytelling is a unique trip. If you’ve never seen Ryan Adams live, just go, the man is a wildly inspired & inspiring genius.

Ryan Adams put on an amazing show at the Lyric Theater in Birmingham Tuesday night. He performed for well over three hours and turned in a set list that featured close to forty songs. An all acoustic show, Adams played the piano, the guitar sitting down, and the guitar standing up. A highlight of the evening was him tinkling the keys at the piano and doing a nicely understated version of “New York, New York.” He also covered in an admirable fashion Hank Williams (“I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”) and Lynyrd Skynryd (“Sweet Home Alabama “). When Adams did the Whiskeytown song “16 Days,” he received an ecstatic reaction from the crowd. Adams ended the concert with a very fine “Come Pick Me Up.” Beforehand he explained in a humorous fashion how it related to his first girlfriend after he moved to Raleigh.

Inconsistent. Moments and passages of the old brilliance, periods of introspection where a budget sound system meant some of the performance was lost to most except those in front stalls. He’s never been at ease with himself but how many artists are? I remember SRV in his darkest most chemically propelled days still giving a great show. So I was pleased I was there, no regrets, but hoped for more.

It was a great show. Although I’m a big fan of Ryan, I never was able to attend one of his concerts. I had to board a plane to see this one, but I’m so glad I did! So much energy, so nice to enjoy the concert in the company of like minded people! The venue was great too. Chairs could have been better, but then again, it was a long concert, so I shouldn’t complain. And I don’t!

I have seen Ryan several times over the years, but last night was nothing short of spectacular. Great venue, with a 3 hr, 33 song retrospective!!! Ryan was in fine voice, and hit on all eras of his career, including Whiskeytown, to present day songs. Moving from differently tuned acoustic guitars, and a piano, it was as if we were graciously invited to a private performance in his dimly lit studio. I'm looking forward to his upcoming tour with the "new" Cardinals, but if you haven't seen this show, you must. As of this writing, I think there are two shows left, and then he's off to Europe.

The show and his talent was in rare form. Playing through a phenomenal set from Whiskeytown days to the present. “Romeo and Juliet” was ultra special with his commentary that the song or further songs may have to come with “conceal and carry” warnings. Went into the aisle to sing; “Lovesick Blues”- pure awesomeness. Ryan’s passion for his music and performing for people like me for which it has such a deep meaning and influence on my life - was marred by several incidents of disrespectful reattributes who never should have taken a seat at the show in the first place! The 2022 return of Ryan Adams took me to Carnegie Hall in May, LA in July and Oakland last night. After seeing him in NYC, I couldn't imagine him topping that performance, but in LA he did just that. Last night in Oakland, Ryan Adams outdid himself again in every way: even better and nuanced vocals and unreal acoustic guitar mastery that made a selection from over twenty years of great songs new again. If that wasn't enough, he added four covers, three on guitar and one on piano, that he, characteristically and wonderfully, made his own. As usual, Ryan also delighted us with his humor which, when it isn't referencing music and pop culture, is hilarious self-deprecation. This show comprised thirty-eight songs in just under three hours from one of the best singer-songwriters of our generation.

It was my first time seeing him though I’ve been a fan for at least the last 8-10 years. He’s a prickly fellow and at the same time funny. He engaged with the audience in a silly way and I appreciated that. This guy is an incredible songwriter. Having grown up with the 70’s singer songwriters (Neil Young, Joni Mitchell), I have to say he is in that class ! Just an endless amount of great songs. I especially love his singing because I can FEEL him when he sings. Vocally he’s a chameleon and able to sound very different on different songs. His vocal performance last night was FLAWLESS! It’s hard to pull off an all acoustic show, but it was clear he was up for this challenge He moved between guitar and piano and I especially liked it when he stood and played and sang. I loved his version of over the rainbow and was quite moved by it (partly because of Bowie’s reference to being free as a bluebird when he dies…I will never get over Bowie’s death). Ryan did so many of my (and, others) favorite songs, but I so wanted to hear magnolia mountain. Next time ❤️. All that being said, I thought of the quote of leaving the audience wanting more. I did not feel that. Almost 3 hours (crazy generous set for his die hard fans) of an acoustic show was about a half hour too long. I’m grateful for his generosity and it made me REALLY want to see him with a full band ! The show was perfect except for the length. I will be buying MORE Ryan Adams CD’s this week. Of his contemporaries (with the exception of Jay Farrar) no one holds a candle to him. For anyone who’s yearning for great songwriting and singing buy Ryan Adams releases. Start with heartbreaker.
