Michel'le について

Michel’le Toussant is an American R&B recording artist who will forever hold a place in music history as one of the most important female vocalists during the "golden-age" of West Coast Hip-Hop.

A native of Compton, it was clear that Michel’le had a unique vision in regards to merging street-influenced urban culture with sultry vocals and powerful lyrics. To begin with, her voice was unquestionably one of the most unique instruments ever heard in music; a high-pitched speaking voice vs. a beautifully aggressive singing vocal. This caught the attention of Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, who at the time needed a female vocalist on what would become one of World Class Wreckin' Cru’s biggest hits, “Turn Off the Lights”. After the single’s success, Michel’le continued her pursuit of a career in music by signing with Ruthless Records at 19. While at Ruthless, her labelmates included pioneers such as Eric “Eazy E” Wright, NWA and the D.O.C.

Ruthless Records made history when it released their first Urban Contemporary project, the eponymous “Michel’le”. With production by Dr. Dre and Eazy E, the release went platinum, selling over 2 million copies. It also garnered several hit singles, including the now classic “Something in My Heart,” “No More Lies,” and funky anthem “Nicety”.

Clearly ahead of her time, Michel’le’s dynamic vocals and electrifying live performances provided the launch pad for fellow urban-influenced female artists, such as Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Lauryn Hill. She proved that she was a force to be reckoned with. This prompted a move to Death Row Records, in 1991, where she released her sophomore album, “Hung Jury”. After its release, she ultimately decided to put her music career on hold, citing creative differences with the once prominent music label.

Now the mother of two, in the midst of a true career resurgence, Michel’le has new music on the horizon, a book in the works, upcoming tv/film projects, and performances lined up all across the country. Having been termed appropriately as “One of the true West Coast Urban Music Icons”, Michel’le is preparing to share her story in the most genuine light possible... from her unique and singular point-of-view. Fans will see firsthand the highs and lows of what it was/is like being the First Lady of West Coast Rap.
