Gypsy Moon was formed in 2014 by two very accomplished musicians, Max De Vivo, aka “Moon Walker,” and Rik Willmitch. It was a chance encounter for both as they connected on the net in 2009 on a music blog. Max is a California resident and Rik is an Ohio native. Rik moved to California that year to continue his music and Audio Engineering career. Max was already well established in his local musical scene as a founding member of two very successful tribute bands. Rik joined one of Max’s bands – “Foreigner Unauthorized,” which is still going strong. They both decided to get a side project started and Gypsy Moon was born! Gypsy Moon is a blend of Smooth Jazz with a little spice of Latin Funk that brings a very unique flavor to the music they perform. Their material is based on very well known Smooth Jazz artists such as Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons, Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Peter White, Marc Antoine, Craig Chaquico, George Benson, Steve Oliver, Santana, and many more, all done the Gypsy Moon way. They are also available as a 6 piece “full band” for the large concert setting with some of the best local jazz artists as members. They bring a full sound and a groove that will keep you off your seats. They have been described as a versatile musical group that takes the Smooth Jazz Groove and transforms it into a West Coast Funk experience – a must see and hear for the Smooth Jazz aficionado.
