anticipated return to music this year with the release of the forthcoming full-length album,
Passage Du Desir, under a new name, Johnny Blue Skies. The eight-song album was produced by
Johnny Blue Skies and David Ferguson and recorded at Clement House Recording Studio in
Nashville, TN and Abbey Road Studios in London, England.
Simpson and his band—Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and
Miles Miller (drums)—will also make their long-awaited return to the road this fall with the
"Why Not? Tour." Simpson’s first full tour in over four years, the extensive headline run includes
stops at L.A.’s The Greek Theatre, Washington State’s The Gorge Amphitheatre, Lexington’s
Rupp Arena, Chicago’s Salt Shed (two nights), Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium and Nashville’s
Bridgestone Arena among many more. Simpson will also headline Outside Lands and Austin City
Limits Music Festival.
Since his debut, Simpson has released five full-length studio albums—2013’s High Top
Mountain, 2014’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, 2016’s A Sailor’s Guide to Earth,
2019’s Sound & Fury and 2021’s The Ballad of Dood and Juanita—along with the 2020
projects, Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Throughout his singular career, Simpson has relentlessly

Sturgill Simpson’s Brussels show wasn’t just a concert—it was a three-hour odyssey through sound, time, and space, guided by a masterful artist unbound by genre. From the moment he took the stage, he transported the audience down an old country road that twisted and turned through blistering hard rock, blues-drenched improvisations, psychedelic tangents, and soft, ambient dirges. His signature smooth, gospel-tinged vocals acted as the anchor, seamlessly carrying us from one sonic world to the next.
What made this show truly remarkable was its fluidity. Album songs were reimagined, stretched, and transformed into something raw and alive. One moment, Simpson and his band were deep in a metal-infused frenzy; the next, they were easing into a stripped-down serenade that felt like a whispered secret between old friends. His unmatched skill was on full display, but it was his freedom, playfulness, and deep connection with the crowd that made the night feel special. He knew his audience, and they knew him—no gimmicks, no pretension, just pure musical communion.
Simply put, this show was worth every mile traveled to Brussels. I left with a T-shirt, a full heart, and the feeling that I had just witnessed something truly rare. Sturgill Simpson isn’t just performing—he’s taking us somewhere. And I’d follow him down that road anytime.

Man if you ever get the chance to see Sturgil, please do it. You will forever regret it if you don’t. Even with a chest cold and the altitude he still killed it. His vocals are just plain out amazing! I am so glad knocked this one off my bucket list. Do yourself a favor and go see him.

What a show, what a showman. He played for three hours, and he seemed tireless. It was a particularly special show, given that his guitarist, Laur Joamets, is a native of Estonia. Johnny's set goes from the rousing ("Long White Line") to the heartbreaking ("Jupiter's Faerie"). His covers are exciting: from the Allman Brothers' "Midnight Rider" to the traditional "Pretty Polly." I also like that fact that he doesn't go overboard trying to ingratiate himself with the audience: he's there to play, not kibbitz. I like that he jams, and he and his tight band really know how to take off and soar. I like that there's none of that fake encore stuff: he plays for three hours, gives it his all, then waves bye-bye... lights up. I saw him on this tour in Dublin and in London in addition to this Tallinn show. Each show was a different experience, and although Sturgill's been doing it night after night, he's clearly a performer who believes that each audience deserves a show late in the tour with the same passion, enthusiasm, and sense of fun that the shows early in the tour had, and he delivers. This guy is the real thing, and in a world of fakers and posers, it's great to get the real thing.
