He continued his learning by studying the techniques of guitarists like Eric Clapton, Terry Kath, taking lessons from the uncle of Bob Weir (who later went on to play with The Grateful Dead). He studied for three years learning music from a traditional perspective. He learned to sight read and became familiar with all the standards for that time. He learned the basics of theroy that would be the basis for his musical knowledge.
