Flatcat について

Flatcat is a punkrock band, that was founded in 1993 by brothers Dirk (guitar) and Wim (drums). In 1995 Minx and Alex joined the band and after some member changes this became the steady line-up. You can expect a good dose of westcoast punkrock, mixed with emo influences.

The band appeared on a compilation cd for the first time in 1996, it was called "Best of Belgium, best Belgian punkbands". After lots of shows with bands like Janez Detd., Heideroosjes, Gwyllions, Undeclinable, I against I,… they were represented a few more times on different compilations.

The Belgian punkrock scene got to know Flatcat better after they played support acts for the likes of The Vandals, The Ataris, Satanic Surfers,… In that same period Janez Detd. asked the band to contribute a song on their new single cd on Virgin records, and they got an offer out of Brazil. In January Flatcat travelled to Brazil for a promotional tour, where they played a headliner show for 500 people in Sao Paulo, even before they released a cd!!

The first "piece of art" was a split cd with a Brazilian and two Canadian bands, who played on the Vans Warped Tour. It was released July 2001 on Highlight Sounds. Other licensed bands on there are Samiam, Bombshell Rocks, 59 times the pain, Good clean fun,…

A second release on highlight sounds, and also the debut full lenght called "Better luck next time" saw the light of day around the end of February, just one week before the second Brazilian tour, where the band did 16 shows, recorded a videoclip and gave some cool tv-interviews in only 17 days!! As if this wasn't enough they also got a 1 hour radio special on Brazil's second largest radio station! The tour was a huge succes, an average of 300/400 people showed up every time with exceptions like Sao Paulo (750) and Volta Redonda (1200)! Back in Belgium they were supposed to take the time choosing between about 4 Belgian labels, but had to act fast because Groezrock was coming up, playing with Bad Religion, Sick of it all, Down by law, Guttermouth, ... Just about some of the biggest bands in punkrock and hardcore history. With the help from Green Leaf/Goodlife recordings, Eye Spy Records (a small independent label that's growing fast) released the European version from the debut album, and it's one of the better selling Belgian punkrock cd's ever! As a tribute to the underground scene they released a single 7" at the same time called "Beautiful in Venice", the song that makes everybody sing along on the many shows played troughout Belgium, time to invade the neighbour countries!
