JAO

JAO is a Filipino singer-songwriter and producer whose music blends heartfelt storytelling, modern pop production, and emotionally charged melodies. Originally debuting as Aaron Obra in 2021 before fully embracing the moniker JAO in 2023, he began writing poems at just 8 years old—unknowingly building the foundation for the introspective songwriting style that would later define his music.

Self-taught in singing, songwriting, and production, JAO started turning poetry into songs in 2020, drawing inspiration from artists like Ed Sheeran, Rex Orange County, and grentperez. His sound mixes soulful pop, quirky narratives, and relatable emotions that resonate strongly with a new generation of OPM listeners.

His debut EP, KABANATA, introduced audiences to his signature storytelling and sleek contemporary sound. The breakout single TORPE went viral, reaching #8 on Spotify’s Viral 50 and later entering Spotify’s Top 50. Another standout track, SENYALES, earned nominations at the 38th Awit Awards for Best Pop Recording, Best Performance by a Solo Artist, and Best Musical Arrangement.
