He’s back but he’s a different, new creation in the same body as the former Jason Dunn. Armed only with a voice that won’t quit and an acoustic guitar until his last song, he tore his way through a few Hawk Nelson standards and gave us no small hint of the direction he’s now heading with his new songs, offered with conviction and urgency. His catharsis took a pause in the baring of his soul as he shared how he walked away from a hugely successful career as frontman for Hawk Nelson, leaving behind all its trappings as he came to terms with the writing and singing of songs he no longer believed, giving up everything he’d worked for, before finally discovering in a seemingly backward gospel church the Jesus he’d sang about but never met until then. The last song, he gave us on piano, a heartfelt offering of urgency and conviction. Then in a moment of spontaneous worship, he started into the Chris Tomlin track, God of Wonders, and we in the audience happily joined in for several repetitions. It was a fitting end to his evening and I suspect we will be hearing more from this young man; I will certainly be watching and listening for more from Jason Dunn.

This tour was intimate and focused on both nostalgia and moving forward. I loved it!

Jason Dunn is not only incredibly gifted when it comes to both songwriting and performing, but he’s also extremely personable. Hanging out with him was like meeting an old friend. Unparalleled experience. Please come back for the “Smile, It’s the End of the World” album anniversary!
