Unmerciful について

Unmerciful
Unmerciful
The entity known as UNMERCIFUL formed in June 2001 with Clint Appelhanz (ex-Origin) and James King as founding members. As frustrated musicians, this gruesome twosome set out to write and record the most brutal death metal they could conjure.

The two quickly progressed and developed their musical identity then started to set sights on putting together a full band. After auditioning various musicians and not being able to keep a stable lineup, UNMERCIFUL temporarily disbanded in 2002 with full intent on picking up the project in the future.

Clint would go on to rejoin ORIGIN on guitar (after the departure of Jeremy Turner). Then, after the departure of John Longstreth, James King followed suit. The two recorded “Echoes of Decimation” with ORIGIN in 2004 and supported the release with a few tours to follow (one of which was with MALEVOLENT CREATION).

In early 2005, Jeremy Turner (who, since his departure from ORIGIN, toured the world with Death Metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE) Joined up with the reformed UNMERCIFUL, along with sick up and comer Tony Reust on vocals. In the summer of 2005, the band recorded a full length which would later become known as “Unmercifully Beaten”.

Without a bassist Clint, James and Jeremy performed bass duties on the songs and Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse) also contributed session bass for the song “Shotgun Sodomy”. Only later would UNMERCIFUL get the help from finger shredder Derek Engemann (Cattle Decapitation/Sour) as permanent bassist.

After several tours with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Crytopsy, Decrepit Birth, Vital Remains and more, the band once again went idle from 2009 and reformed in 2012 with Jeremy Turner picking up the bass and Justin Payne as the new 2nd guitarist.

A decade after the debut of Unmercifully Beaten, the band released Ravenous Impulse in 2016 featuring John Longreth (Origin) on drums, and Kris Bolton on vocals. This would be followed up by Wrath Encompassed in 2020 with Trynt Kelly (Marasmus) as the permanent drummer, and Karl Schmidt (Gorgatron) recording vocals. With limited touring opportunities due to the Covid 19 pandemic the band was still able to land some short tour runs featuring a festival appearance as the 2022 headliner at Brutal Fest 9 (Bogota, Colombia).

2025 would mark the release of Unmerciful's 4th studio album, Devouring Darkness. A crushing effort that encompasses elements of the band's roots with current evolution of the band's musicianship.
