Truly wonderful!

Across two extraordinary shows, Sons of Cream blew our minds yesterday afternoon and evening at The CAT Club’s Sunday Showdown in the The Robin Hood Pontefract’s Pigeon Loft. The sold out audiences for both performances witnessed a calibre of musicianship that hit the very highest level with Malcolm Bruce on bass, Rob Johnson on guitar and Kofi Baker on drums. Ace keyboard player, Dave Bainbridge joined in after the first few numbers that contributed towards the improvisations and interpretations of Cream and Blind Faith classics. Along the way the following songs thundered throughout the venue and beyond into the sultry atmosphere outside: NSU, Politician, Outside Woman Blues, Sleepy Time Time, Pressed Rat & Warthog, Had To Cry Today, Sweet Wine, Badge, Toad, I’m So Glad, Crossroads, Can’t Find My Way Home, We’re Going Wrong and Sunshine Of Your Love. If that wasn’t enough, the rock and roll legend that is known as ‘The God of Hellfire’ turned up at the evening show. Arthur Brown (who toured with the original Cream line-up of Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton) took the stage and joined Sons of Cream to sing Further Down The Road and then closed the proceedings with Willie Dixon’s immortal Spoonful. Astonishing. One happy ticket holder probably summed it all up when he said, “I have no words left in my vocabulary to describe how good that show was.” Record shop owner and avid music concert goer, Elliot Smaje had this to say: “To say that they do Cream justice would be the understatement of the century. To have witnessed a gig quite so remarkable in the upstairs of a pub in Pontefract holding at most 40 people is again testimony to the wonder that is the CAT Club. The understanding, musicality and space to not only improvise and jam around the tunes, but do it to the level that they did was simply jaw dropping. I actually wonder if Cream themselves were as good as this.”
