We’re bringing UMBowl back to the Midwest to Milwaukee’s historic Pabst Theater for two nights on October 9th and 10th.
The Pabst has been hosting performers from around the world since it was built over 130 years ago by Milwaukee beer baron, Captain Frederick Pabst. We can’t think of a better place to party with our favorite peeps for UMBowl XII than in the grandeur of a classic European opera house that offers prime rage real estate.
For the uninitiated, UMBowl challenges the boundaries of a live show experience. Across multiple sets and two nights, we handover part of the playbook to you. Fan voting, real-time “Choose Your Own Adventure” improvisation, deep cuts, unexpected themes and plenty of curveballs make UMBowl one of the most interactive weekends on the UM calendar. Get in the game and expect the unexpected.

Artist bio
Umphrey’s McGee once titled an album Local Band Does O.K. It’s a characteristically understated joke that says plenty about how seriously they’ve always taken the idea of not taking themselves too seriously.
Nearly three decades later, the overachieving local band is still here and doing just fine. With distinctly Midwestern stubbornness, UM has built one of American rock’s great independent endurance stories: nearly 3,000 live shows, 15 studio albums, hundreds of millions of streams and a fiercely loyal community around the world.
From the beginning, Umphrey’s built its own lane, pairing progressive-rock precision with the risk of nightly improvisation. Songs stretch, collapse and rebuild themselves. Genres are less rules than ingredients.
That same spirit has fueled decades of fan-first innovation, from UMLive and Headphones & Snowcones to UMBowl, destination events and Blueprints, which transformed fan-selected live improvisations into fully realized compositions.
Through lineup changes, detours, and a constantly shifting world, the essential impulse remains intact: get in a room together, make something that feels alive, and follow it wherever it leads.
The past is worth celebrating. What comes next is the reason to keep paying attention.

Awesome band! Fantastic venue and great drink selection. I’ve been going to BPB since it opened, and I have seen it evolve. In fact, my band has played on the current stage, in September 2024 (All The Right Heroes). Love the additions to the stage and outdoor space, it has a great backyard chill vibe, very unique. Couple crits too: the high end was not great on the piano sound specifically (not the synths and organs, but specifically when he was trying to sound more acoustic) and I noticed a similar thing with the guitar. It got screechy and caustic and not pleasant (not criticizing the player, I’m sure the tone had in his ear was different- just talking about outward audience sound). I was upfront pretty close and those big stacks on either side of the stage sounded a little tired. I heard some buzz and just not great clarity, sometimes with vocals also- maybe they weren’t carrying the load. Hate to say it, but I would put some of this on the sound guy- and I’ve noticed the board has moved to the side, not sure if you’re just trying to have better visibility, but it would make more sense to me to have someone farther back- in the center. I assume maybe you are looking to beef up your speaker array, might be a good idea. The lows sound great. My other criticism would be there’s not much airflow up by the stage, it was really hot. You have those big awesome fans, but they’re far away, I would recommend figuring out some way to get some air moving through of your outdoor space- especially where people are up dancing. You don’t want some drunk hippie passing out and getting hurt 🙃
