The Sound Lounge

It's back! The Sound Lounge is delighted to announce the return of patron and music writer/broadcaster Paul Sexton's specially-curated nights featuring some of his current favourites on the roots scene. This edition features two artists we're particularly excited to host, one a longtime friend and the other making her SL debut. The Welsh artist Jack Harris combines beautifully delicate and observational songs with a wicked sense of humour that make his shows an absolute delight. He's performed at several Sound Lounge venues over the years and also played at our inaugural Folk In The Park festival in 2021. To hear for yourself, check out Jack's wonderful album The Flame and the Pelican and you'll know why the eminent American songwriter Anaïs Mitchell calls him "a priest of song who holds himself to an ancient, rigorous code of beauty most of us have forgotten exists." Ella Spencer caught Paul's ear in July last year with the striking debut single 'Late Night Train,' which displays a mature songwriting and vocal style beyond her years. The London-based multi-instrumentalist draws on her British-American heritage resulting in a sound firmly rooted in Americana, fusing elements of country, folk, blues and indie. She followed ‘Late Night Train’ with a string of opening slots for Evangeline Gentle, the Sam Chase Trio and Jerry Joseph, plus an appearance at the Maverick Festival. Ella will be appearing at select venues and UK festivals this summer and will return to the studio to record tracks for her forthcoming EP.
