Biographie de Signal to Noise Ratio

Signal to Noise Ratio formed in 2003. They call their music post-psychedelic. At the beginning they played a mix of prog rock, lo-fi and improvised music. Their early recordings were released in 2008 as "Stan nieustalony" (transient state) by MALS Records. Then they worked on an album that they abandoned. And then in the years 2013–2016, they released new tracks one by one until they filled their second (or first) LP, "Work in Progress" (2016, Strange New Sounds).

In the meantime, SNR created an original soundtrack for the silent film "The Phantom Carriage", performed live in the years 2008–2011 on events such as Festiwal Niemego Kina in Warsaw and the international film festival Tofifest in Toruń. They made it to the finals of a contest of interpreting songs by Marek Grechuta (a famous Polish singer-songwriter) with their covers of "Droga za widnokres" and "Może usłyszysz wołanie o pomoc". They did two award winning remixes of tracks by the (then) avant-garde Norwegian jazz-metal band Shining ("I Won’t Forget" and "Fisheye"). They released a vinyl SP recorded with the Warsaw Gamelan Group, an ensemble performing traditional music from Central Java. They made a remix of a contemporary classical composition "Lśnienie" (shimmer) by Wojciech Błażejczyk. The track itself was performed by Kwadrofonik and SNR was accompanied by the trumpeter Olgierd Dokalski, known among others from the band kIRk. Signal to Noise Ratio’s 2021 single, "Widmo" (meaning both spectre and spectrum), is a minute-and-a-half spectral composition.

Signal to Noise Ratio’s upcoming album "Poroże" (antlers) is planned for 2024/25. It will contain the kind of postpsychedelic/drone/ambient music they were performing live during the last years. Meanwhile a second album is being made, which will contain longer versions of interludes from "Poroże" and other long ambient tracks recorded with guest musicians invited to be featured on the album. Such tracks are the singles: "Pozornie w lesie nic się nie dzieje" (seemingly there’s nothing going on in the woods) recorded with Maja Baczyńska playing the Tibetan bowls and "Wrzesień" (September), both released in 2022.
