The Queen of Sax CANDY DULFER geeft dit jaar enkele exclusieve concerten in haar favoriete Nederlandse concertzalen, onderdeel van haar nieuwe wereldtournee WE FUNK HARDER waarmee ze met haar sensationele band over de hele wereld in de beroemdste zalen en op de grootste festivals te horen zal zijn. Bezoekers van haar energieke shows vol dampende funk weten dat ze de titel van haar tour ongetwijfeld volledig waar zal maken.
Na haar internationale doorbraak met de wereldwijde nummer 1 hit “Lily Was Here” en gastoptredens bij Prince (“When I want sax, I call Candy”) volgde haar platina debuut-album Saxuality (goed voor een Grammy-nominatie). Inmiddels zijn we ruim 2,5 miljoen verkochte albums verder. Vorig jaar scoorde ze een nummer 1 hit in de USA met ‘Convergency’ – samen met Chic-legende Nile Rodgers – afkomstig van haar uitstekend ontvangen album We Never Stop. Ook tourde ze in de zomer uitgebreid door de Verenigde Staten. Voor dit jaar staan opnieuw concerten in de States, Japan en door heel Europa gepland.
Haar voortdurende drang tot vernieuwing heeft Candy Dulfer een ongekend gevarieerde carrière opgeleverd. Van succesvol recording artist (meerdere nummer 1 hits in de USA en Japan) tot radio-presentatrice (haar wekelijkse radioshow op Sublime FM) en veelgevraagd gastmuzikante (met samenwerkingen met legendes als Prince, Dave Stewart, Beyoncé, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, Maceo Parker en vele anderen).
Wie Candy eenmaal op het podium heeft gezien, weet echter dat live optreden na al die jaren nog steeds haar grote liefde is. Samen met haar band – al jarenlang een kweekvijver voor Nederlands toptalent – speelt ze over de hele wereld de zalen plat, van de beroemde Blue Note Clubs in Japan tot de grootste festivals in Europa.

Biographie de Candy Dulfer
Candy Dulfer is a successful smooth jazz alto saxophonist from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Dulfer began her career at the age of 12 when she played in a band with Rosa King, an American expatriate living in The Netherlands. Soon Candy was fronting her own band, Funky Stuff, who were invited to backup Madonna for part of her European tour. She was brought to the limelight by Prince, who introduced her to the world through his video for Partyman. This appearance led to session work with Eurythmics guitarist and producer Dave Stewart, who gave Candy a credit on Lily Was Here, reaching number six in the UK and number one in the Dutch radio charts in 1990.
Candy Dulfer's debut album, Saxuality, was released later in 1990. With her funky alto sax stylings proving popular with fans of contemporary jazz at several recently launched smooth jazz radio stations in the United States, Saxuality was nominated for a Grammy and certified gold for worldwide sales in excess of half a million.
Dulfer was also the featured saxophonist in Van Morrison's A Night in San Francisco album made from live recordings at the Masonic Auditorium, San Francisco, California on December 18, 1993 and The Mystic Theater, Petaluma, California on December 12, 1993.
Dulfer is the daughter of tenor saxophonist Hans Dulfer, and they collaborated on a duet album. Strongly influenced by Sonny Rollins and David Sanborn, Candy has become an inspiration to other female instrumentalists, including guitarist Joyce Cooling and saxophonists Pamela Williams and Mindi Abair.
