The Honey Badgers

Philadelphia Folksong Society Musical Artist Cooperative (PFS MAC) presents Matthew Gordon & Friends (Ryann Lynch & Zeek Mitchell) & The Honey Badgers!!! The May 1 show features two bands each forging creative new directions in folk music. Matthew Gordon (dobro/guitar) and friends Ryann Lynch (fiddle) and Zeek Mitchell (keyboards) bring drive and punch to Matthew's blues/funk/folk originals that renders the limitations of pre-established genres to be swiftly abandoned. The music is their own, with Ryann (from Hogmaw and Black Horse Motel) bringing the rhythmic energy of her Irish music background to bear, while Zeek (from Hazy Cosmic Jive, and Z/Dark/Light) uses his musical chops in funk and avant-rock on electric piano to establish a rich palette over Matthew's bluesy dobro and vocals. The Honey Badgers are a contemporary folk duo bringing their sincere Americana sound to stages across the east coast. The married duo is known for their intense, sparkling harmonies, their honest lyrics and melodies, and their undeniable chemistry on and off stage. Weaving their voices together with Michael’s driving guitar and Erin’s wistful violin, The Honey Badgers spin stories and songs about finding yourself, finding each other, and finding your way in the world. They were recently voted #1 “Most Wanted” at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase 2023 and were winners of the 2023 Delaware Public Media Homey Award for Best Folk Song.
