This concert with the Orchestra’s American principal conductor Theodore Kuchar embraces both the home-grown genius of Yevhen Stankovych and the northern landscapes of Sibelius at his most powerful. Beethoven’s joyous Second Symphony is a sunlit salute to unbridled creative freedom – and two of the Orchestra’s own star players take centre stage in the poignant, deeply felt concerto that Brahms wrote for two of his oldest friends.
