Description du concert
On Thursday, July 25, violist Dr. Edward W. Hardy will join Damien Sneed, Jacqueline Echols McCarley, Justin Austin, and the Griot String Quartet for Caramoor’s outdoor concert, “Our Song, Our Story: The New Generation of Black Voices.” This vibrant showcase will feature some of the world’s best-known operatic arias, art songs, and spirituals, honoring the legacies of operatic legends Marian Anderson and Jessye Norman. Created and directed by composer, conductor, and multi-genre musician Damien Sneed, the program symbolically passes the torch to today’s exciting operatic voices, baritone Justin Austin and soprano Jacqueline Echols McCarley. It includes works by African American composers past and present, such as Margaret Bonds, Harry T. Burleigh, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, and Damien Sneed, as well as works by Copland, Mozart, Puccini, Gershwin, and Strauss. The Griot String Quartet members are Dr. Amyr Joyner on violin, Messiah Ahmed on violin, Dr. Hardy on viola, and Miles Goosby on cello.
