Blair School of Music and the International Society of Jazz Arrangers & Composers present John Clayton with the Ryan Middagh Jazz Orchestra, Friday, May 17, 8:00 p.m., in Ingram Hall.
A Grammy-winning bassist, composer, producer, and educator, John Clayton has written and recorded with a who’s who list of legendary artists, including Diana Krall, Paul McCartney, the Count Basie Orchestra, Regina Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gladys Knight, and Queen Latifah. Clayton’s arrangement of the “Star Spangled Banner” for Whitney Houston’s 1990 Super Bowl performance went on to become a Platinum-selling smash.

In addition to his co-leadership with the Clayton Brothers Quintet and the Clayton- Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, bassist John Clayton is widely recognized as a premier producer, composer, arranger, and conductor. John is also an educator, serving as the Artistic Director for the Vail Jazz Camp and the Centrum Jazz Workshop in Port Townsend, Washington. John has produced, composed, and arranged music for such stellar artists as Diana Krall,
Paul McCartney, Queen Latifah, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Regina Carter, Leon Russell, Gladys
Knight, Charles Aznavour, the result of which he has received 10 Grammy (R) nominations.
