The other act didn’t show up, so Horse Opera stepped up and lasted the whole night. It was awesome! Some great rockabilly tunes too.

Biographie de Horse Opera

Horse Opera is Roots Rock, Outlaw Country, Canadiana...but in truth, no genre can contain them - it just means they play whatever they want: rootsy Rock 'n Roll with a dash of soul, a touch of twang, a bit of blues, with punk energy and rockabilly attitude that will make you think and dance at the same time. Their original songs feature strong hooks, distinctive vocals and a twin guitar attack. Mixed in with their originals are covers by artists like Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Delbert McClinton, Johnny Burnett Trio, and even Lady Gaga.

Formed in 2011, Horse Opera has been playing continuously in the greater Vancouver area in clubs and festivals. An energetic live act, they keep the party going and the crowd dancing. Horse Opera's debut album, Nothin' To Lose, was released in November 2017 on deep cove records. They followed up in 2018 with the single “Something You Were Born With.” 2019 saw the release of three singles: “The End of the World,” “Whiskey In the Jar” and “Wagon Wheel.” In 2020 they released the EP “Lucky 13” featuring four new original songs plus three previously released singles. The lead single “Barbie Q” rose to number 15 on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown, followed by "Something You Were Born With" and "The One That Got Away," which both also went Top 15. In 2022 the band was honoured with a Fan's Choice nomination at the BC Country Music Awards, where they were also featured performers.

Horse Opera’s original songs often deal with serious and topical subjects - residential schools, environmentalism, sexual harassment, gender identity, mental illness - but do so in a way that will make you think and dance at the same time.

Lead singer/songwriter Will George comes from a richly varied musical background. Classically trained, he has sung professionally around the world in opera and concert. But his heart has always been in country and rock n roll. For his solo album, “Yesterday’s Gone” on the Milk Cow label, he was joined by members of Steve Earle's and Ryan Adams' bands (recently re-released by deep cove records). 2022 saw the release of "Lonely" a collection of rare tracks and demos spanning over 30 years, including tracks by Horse Opera, The Bovines and more. The release also includes two bonus tracks of songs written by Will and recorded by Andrew Gold and Serina Flagg.
