Sam Wheelock

The one man concert, "A Story and a Song" is performed by the grandson of a convicted moonshiner, Mountain Sam Wheelock. Growing up, he listened to the extended Carter Family play in an Aunt's front yard. Mountain Sam's mission, however, is to be respectful of that form, tipping his hat to pioneers like Bill Monroe, Stick and Brownie Mcghee, while being active in the evolution of regional music. His mission is unique as he is the only performer involved in the creation of this genre of Americana/World music. Credits include involvement in the Grammy nominated radio series "Tennessee's Mountain Heritage", major films like the "Adams Family" and Robert Rodriguez's/Quentin Tarantino's "From Dusk Till Dawn", prime time network shows for ABC Productions, advertising awards as the staff music composer for Cox Communications (AutoTrader, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Palm Beach Post et al). Mountain Sam Wheelock is currently in reruns on two hundred PBS television stations nationwide as part of “Song of the Mountains'" which will also air on selected NPR affiliates. "A Story and a Song" is partially a love letter about life as a child in the Mountains of Eastern Tennessee.
