Description du concert
Well, we are back for a PinDrop at our old haunt the wonderful Fisherman's Arms, it's been a good 8yrs we think since we were last there, this time we present the wonderful. GABRIEL MORENO https://www.gabrielmoreno.co.uk/ Gabriel Moreno is Gibraltarian singer-songwriter, currently based in London. An irresistibly engaging performer, he combines a latin exuberance and passion with a rare lyrical calibre (he is also a published poet, with 12 books in Spanish and English). Performing on nylon-stringed guitar and accompanied by pianist Ned Cartwright, he creates a live experience that has been described as ?Taberna Folk? - at once both energetic and intimate, anarchic and absorbing Moreno?s unique artistic voice lies in the meeting and fusion of different identities. Born and raised in Gibraltar, a British territory bordering southern Spain and just 8 miles from Africa, he has since lived and performed across the world, absorbing influences from music, literature and art everywhere he went. Now considered one of the most compelling and distinctive artists in London's thriving folk and roots scene, he was previously the longtime curator and host of the legendary Lantern Society folk club, and in 2022 was awarded the title of Cultural Ambassador of Gibraltar. Moreno won the Introducing Stage at the Great British Folk Festival in 2019, and although the Covid-19 pandemic forced a temporary hiatus for many artists, he could never let his creativity stagnate; 2023 sees the release of his 3rd album since the start of the pandemic, Wound in the Night, with accompanying packed touring schedule across Europe, as well as a second book of poetry in that time entitled Heart Mortally Wounded by Six Strings. ??Moreno has indeed given us an album of the times.? (Mike Davis, Folk Radio UK) ?An Offshoot of Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond. I love it!? (Cerys Mathews, BBC6) ?What sets Gabriel Moreno apart from his contemporaries, however, is his ever-intriguing usage of the English language to address socio-political issues.? (Loz Etheridge, God Is In The TV) Support from PETER HALL Peter Hall, a Nottingham-based songwriter with North East roots, channels his industrial upbringing into music that blends loss, hope, and love, urging us to embrace our collective struggles. His debut EP, "There?s Something Wrong With Everyone," reveals the often-hidden realities behind social media facades. His upcoming album, "Light The Stars," includes the transformative single "Two Twenty Two." For fans of Roddy Frame, Teenage Fan Club, and Villagers, Peter's music resonates with a message of solidarity and the healing power of connection. DREW FLANAGAN https://www.instagram.com/drewflanaganmusic IDREW FLANAGAN ~ soldier/singersongwriter, thrilled to have him open the evening. DREW's music is a heartfelt journey filled with self-written songs that delve into the realms of folk, exploring themes of love, hope, and social commentary, with new music on the cusp of release.
