Biographie de The Curtis Family C-notes
The Curtis Family, known professionally as, The Curtis Family C-Notes, play a slew of genres, with a strong foundation in American Classical music and “’60s- ’70s-inspired San Francisco/Oakland/Bay Area “ funk”.
The family band with Mom and dad and their 5 children, are all multi-instrumentalists, composers, producers and vocalists; Papa C & Mama C, Zahara, Nile, Isis, Kiki, and Phoenix.
When the Curtis Family played the halftime show at a March 2020 Warriors game, they thought it might be their big break, but shortly thereafter the pandemic hit, shutting down concert venues, thusly, the family started their weekly living room live-streams (on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok) where they could play for a live audience that were tuning in from their phones, home computers, etc; Those same livestreams are what caught the attention of talent scouts for the popular TV show, America’s Got Talent (AGT), where their audition episode went “viral” and led to yet another amazing opportunity.
The VP of Brand Synergy for JCPenney saw the Curtis Family on America’s Got Talent and called them to do a holiday campaign for the company, the day after they were “eliminated” from AGT. The commercial aired for weeks both nationally and internationally and the song they recorded in collaboration with Breed Music, “Joy Comfort Peace” was featured in their holiday ad.
Since then, the Curtis Family released their debut album, Awaken, all of the songs on the project were written, composed, arranged and produced by Maestro Curtis (Papa C) they played sold out shows at iconic venues like Yoshi’s and the Blue Note in Napa. The Curtis Family has also played and performed with icons like, El DeBarge (of the iconic Debarge family), Lenny Williams (former lead singer of the iconic band, Tower of Power), opened for Juan Escovedo (of the famed E Family) and the musical phenom, Lalah Hathaway.
Currently, the Curtis Family is looking forward to releasing two more albums, Awaken II, a Holiday album (release dates, TBA), and other very exciting projects (top secret) set for release in 2024.
The Curtis Family’s goal is to use their growing platform to highlight the disparities that adversely affect marginalized communities in San Francisco, through their non-profit, Passing The Torch, where they bring the whole family, seniors and the youth together through music.
Maestro Curtis and his wife Nola are proud faculty members of the San Francisco Community Music Center where all 5 of their children are also students; they all take pride in being a part of an an institution that ensures high quality music education is accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, regardless of financial means.
