BI TYRANT

Formed in 2014, Bi TYRANT consists of leader Brittany Anjou, drummer Laura Cromwell (ex-Cibo Matto, Growing Up Skipper) and guitarist Valerie Vetere (ex-Friendly Bears). Brittany and Valerie met in school, meeting Laura while the three toured in the reunion of 1960s cult-classic godmothers of punk, The Shaggs (Dot Wiggin Band). Bi TYRANT's debut album, Bisexual Tyrant, dropped September 2016, and “F*ck Donald Trump” quickly became their most streamed track. The Menses Tour 2017-2019 made stops in Boston, Seattle, NYC, Asbury Park NJ, Portland ME, Brooklyn, Berlin, and Beirut. Maintaining an underground DIY presence (unable to publicly share live videos of their explicit performances), the band went completely underground while the leader was temporarily based in the Middle East. In 2018, they appeared as a jazz octet at NYC’s Winter Jazz Festival. They began recording a second album with Martin Bisi in 2022. The band has featured many musicians, and has had a tradition of cis male musicians being mandated to dress in drag if invited to perform as a member of the band.
