Biographie de Percussion Discussion Afrika

Percussion Discussion Afrika is a Ugandan folk pop music group founded in 1997, by Uganda’s legendary percussionist Herman Ssewanyana, who has also been a member of Uganda’s longest-lasting musical band the Afrigo Band, since 1980.

While still with Afrigo band which plays Ugandan classics influenced by Congolese soukous, Ssewanyana created Percussion Discussion Afrika to uplift Ugandan traditional instruments, with emphasis on percussion. The group has toured extensively all over Africa, middle east and Europe, showcasing the diverse sounds of east Africa while advancing a hybrid of their new sound.

Since 2011, Ssewanyana and Percussion Discussion Afrika have collaborated with musicians from around the world to advance cross-cultural experiences and bring communities together through the power of music. Their name is self-explanatory; they make percussion instruments melodically discuss amongst themselves, accompanied by adungus, bass, and voice. Percussion Discussion Afrika was the first Uganda group to have percussion as leading instruments in a band and they continue to stand out.

The group’s debut album Omubala was number one on the internet charts for close to a year when released and their second album Mulamu took Kampala by storm and took them to the pinnacle of Ugandan respect when it won them a Pan African Music award as the best folk pop group.

Percussion Discussion Afrika continues to perform locally in Uganda and strives to reach new audiences worldwide.
