Sound at the Palladium wasn’t the greatest, but Sponge always puts on a good show

Last night was one of the best nights of my entire life, and Sponge is 100% responsible for that. I’ve been a huge fan for nearly 30 years and it was a humbling honor to finally meet them. It was the greatest interaction with a musician I could’ve EVER hoped for. All the band members were really awesome to be around and not condescending at all. Additionally, I gave the band a photo of my daughter to sign for me and it will be BY FAR my favorite dad relic to pass to her in the future. I cannot express enough gratitude for the show Sponge put on for the people of Liverpool/Syracuse, because it was by far THE BEST DAMN SHOW I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY 39 YEARS OF EXISTENCE. PERIOD. They put on the best concert you could honestly ask for! Andy, bro, that voice box performance of “Got to be a Bore” was beyond epic. It was absolutely legendary. I’ve never had a reaction like that at a show before. I’ve never been blown away by a musical group live until last night. STP, Bush or even Tool couldn’t perform a flawless masterpiece like you all did. It wasn’t just Andy though, all the fellas played a massive part in this hard-to-believe night. I had to pinch myself a few times because there were moments that I thought I could’ve been dreaming, especially during the song Rainin’. This band in particular deserves all the credit in the world. The show was so good that I plan to keep seeing Sponge in the future, and bring more people too. I urge everyone to stop listening to their Limp Bizkits and their Kanye Wests at once and start listening to REAL musicians with actual talent, like them. Their music is not only full of amazing melody, but it’s jam packed full of amazing and inspirational messages and lyrics. There’s an evident reason why Vinnie was a guest on the show Spaceghost. Sponge is oozing with awesome and it is undeniable. Sponge is the equivalent for me that the Grateful Dead is for many deadheads I’ve met. I now realize I wasn’t really living until I saw and met them. Vinnie told me how beautiful my daughter is while he was signing a picture of her, so this is another highlight of my life that nobody can take away from my fiancée and I. I have a few missions in my happy life: be a great father to my children, be a very hardworking painting business owner and spread the word of Sponge. Sponge changed my life in the best possible way. This was such a happy memory for both of us and it will never be forgotten. I’m sure we will be thinking about it on our wedding day next year. Guys, thank you for being such a huge difference in the world. Prost! Zack Reno, biggest Sponge fan of Rochester, NY

About Sponge

Sponge has proven to be one of the Motor City's heaviest hitters after gaining international notoriety with their debut album "Rotting Piñata” (Sony). Emerging from Detroit with hits like "Plowed" and "Molly (16 Candles)" Sponge received massive airplay on radio stations from coast to coast and were in heavy rotation on MTV. Both “Plowed” and “Molly” hit #5 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Charts, catapulting “Rotting Piñata” to Gold, and ultimately Platinum status.

Sponge's follow up CD, the critically lauded “Wax Ecstatic” (Columbia) scored additional top ten Billboard hits including "Wax Ecstatic" and "Have You Seen Mary?" The band’s music was also featured in popular movies “The Craft,” “Chasing Amy,” “Mall Rats” and “Empire Records.” Sponge’s star continued to rise with network appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and the “Conan O’Brien Show.”

Sponge’s subsequent releases “New Pop Sunday,” “For All The Drugs in The World,” “The Man,” “Galore Galore,” and “Destroy the Boy,” showcased the band’s swirling sonic attack, rooted in 70's glam and of course, the Motor City influences of The Stooges, The MC5 and Motown-but still sounding distinctly like no one else.

“Plowed” continues to be the band’s signature rock track, having been spotlighted on Guitar Hero’s “Warriors of Rock – 90’s Rock Track Pack” – and on the Paper Jamz Guitar Series 2, in addition to the soundtrack for the Gerard Butler surf movie “Chasing Mavericks.”
