About THE KURSK

The Kursk originally formed in 2006. Members included Skyler Smith, Sebastian (Seabass) Karuppan and Stephanie Prevedel. After a short time practicing, a show at the Springfield midtown library, and several visceral shows at The Magic Bean coffee (not!) shop, they fell apart. Skyler and Sebastian retreated briefly to learn every Led Zeppelin song from Led Zeppelin I through CODA. Shortly after communing with the dark lord the group added to their ranks the thunderous Clinton Houseman and played extensively in Springfield throughout late 2006-2007. This period would prove essential to shaping the members of the band as well as forging the sound that they maintain now. The Kursk recorded "Songs from an Unfinished Room" at the end of the Seabass iteration of the band and Sebastian moved on to pursue a productive occupation as a biological researcher, but has remained a tremendous influence on the rest of the band and holds the position of honorary percussionist. 2008-2009 was a hiatus that allowed Skyler and Clinton to learn the things that make adults wish they were children again. In 2010 the band reformed with Alex Stephens on drums. As the band evolved the members busted their chops and honed their sound. They recorded a five song E.P. with Lou Whitney at The Studio in late 2011. The self titled E.P. is available for free download or streaming on Soundcloud. After an appearance on TAG radio and regular shows the band again dissolved and slowly reformed this time with Tim Labrie on drums. Over the short 8 month period with Tim, The Kursk has played many shows, each better than the last. They have recorded a full length album and a mini album with Mark Bilyeu. No small undertaking, the band recorded the 18 tracks in less than 24 hours. Their debut album "Arrow" was released in late 2014. In 2016 a line up change. Seth Randolph joined and The Kursk began working on their sophomore album "Disassociation" due to be released later this year.
