Biographie de The Amours
The Amours sing, perform, and captivate with an endless amount of ardor. As a result, the Washington, D.C. sister duo of Jakiya Ayanna and Shaina Aisha immediately enchant every time they step up to a microphone together. Jakiya later gravitated towards musical theater, and Shaina played guitar and sang. They were also involved in several artist development programs growing up like the, DC Youth Ensemble, Arlington Youth Street Theater and attended the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where they received rigorous classical training and simultaneously developed a heightened understanding of the world around them shaped by their city.
In 2014, the girls made the decision to formally launch The Amours. They went from performing at countless local open mic nights, showcases and several events around Washington to trending on social media for viral Instagram harmony videos which led to them landing their first big gig. In 2017, the sisters caught the attention of artist and producer PJ Morton after adding harmony to a cover he posted online. The Amours spent two and a half years on the road as part of PJ’s backing band and performed on the GRAMMY® Award-winning Gumbo Unplugged album. Simultaneously, they honed a heartfelt and hypnotic sound of their own equally “tasteful, soulful, and authentic.
