Biographie de Cathy Grier
"Asking Grier to narrow down a list of influences is like asking her to pick a favorite child. Hailing from a pop-rock age, her inspirations are anything from David Bowie to Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell to Richie Havens. Her warm-textured, Bonnie Raitt-flavored voice and slide/harmonica/cigar box guitar chops prove that blues is in her DNA." American Blues Scene
The Troublemakers band is made up of musicians willing to have some troublemaking fun performing with Cathy. Current Troublemakers roster: Hans Christian bass, Jamey Clark drums, Deirdre Fellner backing vocals. Additional special guest Troublemakers includes 3-4 piece horn section, harmonica, keyboards and guitar depending on the budget. Cathy is also a super engaging and a powerful solo artist.
Cathy Grier’s four-decade-long career is a rich musical tapestry with career highlights ranging from an MTV video in the ’80s to opening for legendary artists Laura Nyro, The Band, Dave Mason, and Joan Armatrading. She lived in France in the ’90s, toured and wrote for many artists, including a #1 dance hit for pop star Indra. In 2019 Cathy wrote a Blues score for the Documentary film “My First and Last Film,” by director Tracey Thomas, currently on the film festival circuit. Cathy spent 20 years in New York, mostly performing under the name NYC Subway Girl, was featured on CBS Sunday Morning, and performed at legendary Avery Fisher Hall.
Her love of performing the Blues has found a home in Wisconsin. She formed the band Troublemakers in 2017 for her first Summerfest and continues to perform there every year. Cathy Grier’s undeniably powerful voice accompanied by tasty Blues guitar styling affirms her place on the world stage.
Part storyteller, part blues traveler, Cathy is committed to representing Women in the Blues worldwide. She presently calls Sturgeon Bay, WI her home.
