Showtimes: May 24th and May 25th at 7:30pm May 26th at 2pm Stephen Sondheim is a legend in musical theatre and changed the genre with his many creations. Sondheim on Sondheim is a portrait of the beloved composer which intersperses his music with filmed commentary from the man himself. You’ll enjoy familiar favorites—West Side Story, Follies and Sweeney Todd—as well as hidden gems. Join us at this collaboration between Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative and BNH Stage for an evening of Sondheim music and gain a new perspective on the composer and his work in this funny, affectionate and revealing tribute. More than a musical revue of his indelible five-decade career, Sondheim on Sondheim is an intimate portrait of the famed songwriter — his story and his inspiration in his own words. Get an inside look at Steve’s personal life, artistic process, and legacy through exclusive video interviews and performances of his exceptional songbook.

Renee Rosnes' arrangements of the Sondheim songs in the first half of the concert were sublime. I hope Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes record this music for a studio album or a live recording. And the Dave Grusin-led second half of the concert covering a jazz-infused "West Side Story" featured top-notch musicians including Tom Scott.

Stephen Sondheim (b. March 22, 1930 in New York City, New York) is a composer and lyricist for stage and screen. He is one of the few people to win an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards, multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize.
Sondheim has been writing for the American Musical Theatre for the past four decades. His breakthrough musical Company revolutionized the art form. He is considered by many to be the finest living composer of our time.
His scores include Passion, Assassins, Bounce, Into The Woods, Sunday In The Park With George, Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Pacific Overtures, A Little Night Music, Follies, Company, The Frogs, Anyone Can Whistle, Company, and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to The Forum, as well as the lyrics for Gypsy and West Side Story.
