Biographie de SUNMONKS
Drawing on influences like Talking Heads, David Bowie and Nat King Cole, California-based indie-music duo, SUNMONKS, have “…developed a sound that combines lilting melodies, hypnotic rhythms, and bits of musical styles from all over the globe…” (EntertainmentWeekly.com). They’ve been described as “…propulsive…extremely rhythmic and hypnotic…” (Overblown.co.uk), and have “…an insatiable appetite for all genres…earnest lyrics, instrumental and rhythmic complexity, impeccable harmonies and a swirl of influences…” (Submerge Magazine).
California natives, Alexandra Steele and Geoffrey C.K. formed SUNMONKS in 2013, and recently released their first full-length album, “Two Play”. The album was recorded and produced by John Baccigaluppi of Tape Op Magazine at the Panoramic House Studio in Marin, CA.
Geoffrey CK was working as a touring-bassist for Sea of Bees (CA) in 2013 when he and Alexandra began performing original material at private parties. They were urged to begin performing these songs in public by fellow musicians and friends, and SUNMONKS was born. After show-goers and fans began asking for recordings of their material, they released their first EP, In a Desert of Plenty, through Crossbill Records in 2014.
Geoffrey and Alexandra both have very eclectic taste in music, and write and produce music using a wide tool-set of genres, approaches and Northern California musicians.
