Biographie de Mystery Friends
Though cheekily self-described as "moderately danceable," Mystery Friends don't want you to sit still. Falling somewhere between Talking Heads and Dua Lipa, the DC-based band makes fresh synth-pop and disco-tinged tracks you didn't know you were missing.
Since forming in 2016, the band has consisted of an evolving roster, though always anchored by founding members Abby Sevcik (vocals, keyboards) and Dave Mohl (synthesizer, guitar). The band put out its debut album "Past and Future Self" in 2019, which DCist described as "the arc of an evolution" starting with danceable post-punk vibes and slowly advancing to a synth-heavy, futuristic finale. The band has continued to musically evolve, while never straying from its signature sound.
Captivating audiences with high energy live performances, Mystery Friends have played in venues across the country, alongside lauded acts like De Lux and Blood Cultures. The band offers a sound the Washington Post described as "new wave and synth-pop, made timeless with a solid foundation of pop-rock songwriting and the dramatic vocals of frontwoman Abby Sevcik." Though the pandemic stalled plans of a nationwide tour in 2020, that hasn't stopped the band from putting out a series of captivating new tracks, while looking forward to what's next.
Mystery Friends may not know what the future holds, but they intend to provide the soundtrack.
