Billets, dates de tournée et concerts pour Sal La Rocca
Description du concert
You are not in Chicago or New Orleans, you are in Ixelles. But if you are under the impression of being somewhere else, that’s understandable: the atmosphere, the fragrance, the warmth and the music have the color of true, authentic jazz. The « Sounds », run since 1986 by Sergio Duvalloni and Rosy Merlini, has had the best Belgian and international jazzmen on stage, and the numerous memorable concerts make it a ‘must’ for all jazz fans and lovers of good music in general. There is not only the music, but also the style, the cocktails (Sergio!), the delicious Italian dishes (Rosy!) and the quality of an authentic Brussels venue.

Biographie de Sal La Rocca

Sal La Rocca is originally from Seraing, Belgium, near LIEGE. He was first a Rock guitarist, but switched to the bass as his instrument of choice after hearing (for the first time) music by several jazz greats. After switching, he taught himself how to play by the age of 23. Over time, he become one of the most “in demand” double bassists in Belgium and in the European theater. Starting in the mid 80’s, Sal has toured and performed with a wide array of musicians on the European continent.
The 90’s saw him expanding his presence with world tours. His list of celebrity musicians he performed with continued to grow, adding well known names like Lee Konitz, Harold Land, Philip Catherine, Dani Klein feat. Vaya Con Dios and Toots Thielemans to his musical resume.

“Sal La Rocca is one of Belgium's most well respected and sort after bassist. He says he owes his style to Paul Chambers and Ray Brown; not a bad thing, but listening to this CD Sal has a much edgier and varied palette set of chops plus some special composing skills. With Sal on this CD is Pascal Mohy: Piano, Jacques Schwarz-Bart: Sax, Lorenzo Di Miao: Guitar and Hans Van Oosterhout: Drums. I like Sal's composing; it give the other musicians some great moments to work on and show what they can do without being over stated. On the Igloo Label this is well deserved 5 star album”
