Biographie de Nick Edward Harris
Nick Edward Harris is an acoustic musician, primary school music teacher, producer, guitar tutor, and multi-instrumentalist. He plays, records and tours in various musical projects, as well as working on his own solo career, usually consisting of just guitar, piano and vocals.
Years ago, having left his job in London as a primary school teacher, he escaped to the remote landscapes of New Zealand to live a frugal life, spending a year dedicating himself to music, busking to pay the bills and writing prolifically. Then returning to the UK and emerging himself in the live music scene, Nick worked with Ben Lovett of Communion Records, going on to release his debut album ‘Chimera’ in 2013.
Since then the experimental guitarist released his second album ‘The Tall Trees’, seeing a significant development of both intricacy and style, beguiling vocals with a kind of acoustic guitar playing that combines the old with the progressive. Recorded entirely at night by eminent Brighton producer Nick Trepka (Speech Debelle, Emmy the Great, Kieran Leonard) the album features a diverse orchestra of supporting instruments from accordions, horns, flutes and string sections, to tribal chanting and odd percussion.
His new album ‘And now the night…’, due for release in September through Folklore Records is a quiet soliloquy of introspections and personal reflections. Recorded and produced alone, it features whichever instruments were to hand in his home studio.
In recent years Harris has toured the UK with ‘Keston Cobbler’s Club’ of Camp Wildfire, played alongside Courtney Barnett, Moulettes, Rozi Plain, and has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe. He has been long-listed for the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, with performances at Wilderness, Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury and Green Man among others, as well as playing in alt-folk collective ‘Patch and The Giant’.
For his upcoming release, Harris has taken a new approach to writing, shaping and recording: stripping almost everything away in decisive strive for honesty, vulnerability and direct engagement with the listener.
Nick’s music has been met with acclaim and support from Clash Music, Q Magazine (Calm Your Demons - Track of the Day) and BBC 6 Music among others.
Throughout recent years, Nick has gigged extensively in the UK, performing with acts including Moulettes, Rozi Plain, Dan Croll and Courtney Barnett and touring with acts including Maia and Patch and the Giant. Having recorded an EP with Ben Lovett of Communion Records, his debut album ‘Chimera’ features unique collaborations with Emma Gatrill (Moulettes, The Mariner’s Children/Sons of Noel and Adrian) and Ted Dwane (Mumford and Sons). His second album 'The Tall Trees', recorded by London producer Nick Trepka (Speech Debelle, Kieran Leonard, Emmy the Great) will be released in February 2015.
