Splitsville

Splitsville is a Power Pop Hall of Fame band known for their infectious melodies, sharp lyrics, and energetic live shows. Formed in 1994 by twin brothers Brandt Huseman (drums) and Matt Huseman (guitar) with Paul Krysiak (bass, keyboards), the band emerged from the ashes of ‘90s pop/alternative darlings The Greenberry Woods.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Beatles, The Who, and The Jam, Splitsville put its own spin on classic guitar-driven pop. Their three Big Deal Records releases Splitsville U.S.A. (1996), Ultrasound (1997), and Repeater (1998) paired big hooks and loud guitars with increasingly ambitious arrangements. Their take on Burt Bacharach’s “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” featured on the soundtrack to the teen comedy Get Over It. 2001’s The Complete Pet Soul paid loving homage to their dearest influences through a pastiche all things pop circa 1966. That same year’s best of compilation Bulk Rate (AirMail Recordings, Japan) included rare tracks from the band’s barnburner set at L.A.’s Poptopia Festival.

Lead guitarist Tony Waddy joined in 2001 to help take Pet Soul on tour in Spain and became an integral part of the band’s sound on Incorporated (2003). Another compilation followed, Let’s Go! The Best of Splitsville (Pop Boomerang, Australia, 2007). After a long break from the studio, the quartet have returned with Mobtown (Big Stir Records, 2025), a love letter to – and critique of – their hometown of Baltimore that expands on their timeless sound.
