A propos de Bryony Jarman-Pinto
London-born, Lancaster-based singer, songwriter, and musician Bryony Jarman-Pinto seamlessly blends enchanting vocals and spellbinding jazz-infused melodies with intricately crafted and personal lyrics, drawing inspiration from soul and folk influences.
With both of her parents as musicians, Bryony’s formative years in Cumbria were surrounded by the art form, attending singing workshops with her mum from a very young age. Taking inspiration from the jazz vocalists and jam musicians she used to fall asleep listening to as a child, there is a jazz core at the heart of her music.
Bryony’s musical odyssey took a pivotal turn at BlueJam Arts, where she began performing alongside Tom Leah AKA Werkha, now long-time friend and collaborator. During this time, Bryony wrote and recorded the vocal line for Werkha’s track “Sidesteppin”, which was selected for Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers compilation, before being released on Werkha’s “Beacons” EP. Not long after, “Dusk”, another co-written Werkha single gained notably heavy daytime airplay from BBC 6Music’s Lauren Laverne.
The pair showcased their capacity for musical exploration on Bryony’s debut album ‘Cage & Aviary’. The sophisticated songwriting, brought to life by Bryony’s signature harmonies and melodic compositions, charmed many other major tastemakers, including Jamz Supernova (BBC 6Music), Laurent Garnier (Worldwide FM), Robert Elms (BBC Radio London), John Kennedy (Radio X) and Jeremy Sole (KCRW), and received praise from publications including EARMILK, Dummy, Clash, The Telegraph, Bandcamp Weekly and PopMatters. Since releasing her LP, Bryony has been remixed by dego, Wu-Lu, Footshooter, Wonky Logic and Jesse Fischer. She collaborated with Duke Hugh on a Boomerang Records compilation ‘Global Sounds’ alongside the likes of Mark de Clive-Lowe, Yazmin Lacey and Afronaut Zu. The releases have since been performed at We Out Here, Love Supreme, Kendal Calling, Brick Lane Jazz Festival, Roundhouse, Ghost Notes, Islington Assembly Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, Band on The Wall, Late Night Jazz at Royal Albert Hall, Hootananny Brixton and The Hackney Social, amongst other dates. She has also supported the legendary Roy Ayers at the Union Chapel and was chosen to perform at Tobacco Docks as part of a BBC Introducing showcase.
Releasing on May 10th, 'Below Dawn' is the highly anticipated second studio album from singer-songwriter Bryony Jarman-Pinto. Exploring sentimental themes of societal change, untapped emotions, and the profound journey of pregnancy and motherhood, the album radiates intimacy, a testament to Bryony's evocative songwriting. The deeply personal and transformative narrative unfolds with each of the 12 tracks, delivered with her uniquely symphonious vocals and signature jazz-inspired compositions. ‘Below Dawn’’s production is helmed by Ben Lamdin, also known as label-mate Nostalgia 77, renowned for his work with artists like Jamie Cullum, Alice Russell, and Jeb Loy Nichols.
