Mar de Grises

MAR DE GRISES have awakened! The South American death doom ambassadors have remained painfully silent for more than a decade after its
members parted ways to pursue other projects or engage in important family affairs. The band from Chile has been pioneering a metal sound that is
firmly based in the tradition of the genre but also added a modern approach and their own, clearly recognizable mark of melancholia and cinematic
vision.
Inspired by the "Sea of Greys" that comes naturally to musicians from a country that consists of a seemingly narrow strip of land between the mighty
Andes and the Pacific ocean for the most part. Their music did not just leave the metaphorical salty taste of the ocean but appeared to reflect all the
aspects of their country. From the Strait of Magellan and the Antarctic cold of the dreaded, storm-whipped Cape Horn and Tierra del Fuego ("Land of
Fire") in the south via the metropolis of Santiago the Chile and the lush green Valdivian forests to the Atacama Desert in the north, MAR DE
GRISES translated all this richness into metal. So far, only a few bands from the sleeping metal giant of the South American continent have been
picked up by European labels.
The Chileans are among these as they were first signed by Firebox from Finland and then moved up to Season of Mist. They also actively toured in
Europe for example with SÓLSTAFIR, SWALLOW THE SUN, and SATURNUS, performed at festival and have shared stages with ENSLAVED, OPETH,
and KATATIONIA among many others.
Their silence ended when MAR DE GRISES performed a special reunion show in 2025. This was the spark that lit the fire again: their creative energy
had recharged over the hiatus and new songs began to flow.
Currently, MAR DE GRISES are putting the finishing touches to a new album, and they are looking for a new label partner.
Welcome back!
