Roy Kim, otherwise known as Snacky Chan or simply Chan, is a rapper originally hailing from New Jersey who established himself in Boston and is now based in New York City. He is signed to Dynasty Muzik and has collaborated with artists such as Jin and GZA.
His first album, "Politickin w/ Chan" b/w "Big in Japan," was released in September 2001 on Detonator Records. Of the release, music critic Chairman Mao of XXL magazine said, "Chan is the rugged-est, most skilled Asian-American MC I've heard yet -- actually, he's pretty dope on any scale ..."
Chan has been featured on compilations such as Detonator Records' "Volume 1" and "Home." He is featured on Organic Thoughts album and one of Jin's mixtapes, and was nominated for Best New Rap/Hip-Hop Act at the 2001 Boston Music Awards.
Collaborations include fellow Boston rapper Akrobatik, Singapore Cain, and Asian-American artists Jin and Far-East Movement.
After a national tour with Detonator Records, Chan devoted himself to writing and recording his debut album, "Part of the Nation," which was released in the fall of 2004 under his own start-up record label, Dynasty Muzik.
In February 2005, Chan released a music video for the song "Lonely Road". The song was produced by Illmind. The video features cameos by Immortal Technique, Miss Info, LS, and Illmind. The video is directed by the same director of Jin's video for "Top 5 (Dead or Alive)". In the song, Chan raps about taking the "lonely road". He talks about going after his dreams rather than having fame and riches as his motive.
The latest work by Chan is the track "Vengeance" featuring Wu Tang Clan rapper GZA.
